Mommy Makeover

Many women have more than one area they’d like to improve after pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. To address these concerns, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Diaz offers a personalized combination of breast and body procedures, often called a Mommy Makeover. It helps women from Melbourne, St. Cloud, Viera, Kissimmee, and Brevard County, FL, look and feel as good as they did before having babies, or even better. These procedures aren’t just for Florida moms; a Mommy Makeover can be a great choice if you’ve lost significant weight or the natural aging process has affected your contours.

Are You a Good Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?

The best candidates for Mommy Makeover surgery are healthy women who have undergone significant body changes, such as pregnancy or major weight loss, and want to address multiple concerns at once. They should be at a stable weight and have stopped breastfeeding for at least 3 months prior to breast surgery. There are many advantages of combining procedures, including:

  • A single recovery period
  • Lower cost compared to individual surgeries
  • Reduced exposure to anesthesia
  • More comprehensive results

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Michael Diaz will analyze your body and discuss your available treatment options during your initial consultation.

What Procedures Are in a Mommy Makeover?

Mommy Makeovers typically combine breast enhancement and body contouring procedures to give patients multiple benefits with a single surgery and recovery period. While Dr. Diaz personalizes these procedures to each patient’s unique needs and cosmetic goals, most include a combination of the following procedures:

Breast Augmentation

Breast implants add feminine volume to the breasts and can correct minor sagging after pregnancy. Breast augmentation can also correct asymmetry and reverse an inverted nipple.

breast augmentation

Breast Lift

Age and breastfeeding can cause the breasts to stretch downward and lose their youthful shape. Breast lift surgery places the breasts higher along the chest wall, helping them appear more firm and perky.

Tummy Tuck

Pregnancy and weight changes can permanently stretch the skin around your lower abdomen. Tummy tuck surgery removes this loose skin to tone the midsection and create a firm, flat belly.

Liposuction

Unwanted fat can collect around the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and bra area. Liposuction is a versatile procedure that suctions fat cells away to slim and sculpt the body.

What To Expect After Mommy Makeover Surgery

Dr. Diaz believes in the importance of quality patient care. He believes that with a proper evaluation, a Mommy Makeover can be safely performed as an outpatient procedure. Dr. Diaz will send you home with a sequential compression device usually used in hospitals, which provides an additional level of safety while still allowing you the comfort of recovering at home. Once home, one of our caring nurses will perform a home visit to make sure you are recovering well. The following morning you will be seen in our office for a dressing change.

After your Mommy Makeover surgery, you can expect to feel tired and sore and have some bruising and swelling. The discomfort is usually controlled by medication prescribed by Dr. Diaz. You can be up and about immediately, walking in a slightly bent fashion. It may take a week until you feel comfortable straightening out if you had a tummy tuck. You will be seen daily to change your dressings. Surgical drains will usually be removed in 5 to 7 days.

How Long Does It Take To Recover After a Mommy Makeover?

Recovery time after a Mommy Makeover varies with the procedures performed and individual factors. Dr. Diaz will see you periodically throughout this period to assess your recovery and adjust your activity accordingly.

Recovery Milestones

Expect to reach the following milestones along this general timeline after a Mommy Makeover (experiences vary):

  • Return home: Day of surgery
  • Soreness subsides: 5 to 7 days (varies with pain medication)
  • Drains removed: 7 to 10 days
  • Resume nonstrenuous work and activities: 10 to 14 days
  • Stand fully upright (if you had a tummy tuck): 10 to 14 days
  • Resume nonstrenuous exercise: 3 weeks
  • Wear compression garments: 4 to 6 weeks
  • Resume strenuous exercise and heavy lifting: 6 weeks
  • See final results: 3 months, once swelling fades
  • Scars fade: 6 months to 1 year

A Mommy Makeover is major surgery, so be sure to give yourself time to recover. Follow your post-op instructions closely, and call our office if you have any concerns or questions.

Mommy Makeover Recovery Timeline

1 Week: The first weeks are the most demanding part of the recovery process. You will spend most of your time relaxing, sleeping, and taking short walks around your home to encourage blood flow. You may walk slightly hunched over during these first few days. Ask friends and family to help with household responsibilities such as grocery shopping, meals, and childcare.

3 Weeks: Fatigue and residual tenderness are common during this period. You can begin weaning off your pain medications and take slow walks outside, when needed. Most patients can safely return to work during this time, but patients with physical jobs may need an additional week.

6 Weeks: You will no longer need to wear your abdominal binder during the day. Swelling is significantly reduced and you will have more energy for your daily activities. Light exercise can be resumed. Most patients can comfortably fit back into their pre-surgery clothing.

8 Weeks: You can now enjoy the final look of your Mommy Makeover results. Swelling is gone and you can buy new clothes to fit your new, slimmer physique. Intense exercise and weightlifting can be resumed. Incisions are closed and scars will begin fading over time.

Mommy Makeover FAQs

Will a Mommy Makeover help me lose weight?

While a Mommy Makeover can slim and sculpt the body, it is not a “weight loss” procedure. The skin and fat removed during surgery will not significantly change the number on the scale. Ideal Mommy Makeover patients should be within 10 to 15 pounds of their goal weight before considering treatment.

Can I have children after a Mommy Makeover?

Yes, you can physically still have children after a Mommy Makeover. However, we recommend waiting to have surgery until you’ve finished growing your family, as pregnancy can change the body and impact your long-term results.

Is a Mommy Makeover painful?

Like any surgery, a Mommy Makeover comes with a certain amount of discomfort. Pain medications are provided after treatment and temporary bed rest is required. Some patients may opt for using Exparel®, a long-acting local analgesic injection that lasts up to 72 hours and is administered during surgery. With proper medication and diligent rest, you should feel back to normal within a few weeks.

How much does a Mommy Makeover cost?

The price of a Mommy Makeover here in Melbourne, FL, depends on a variety of factors. The final cost depends on the specific procedures you choose to involve in your body contouring transformation. After a consultation with Dr. Diaz, our practice will provide you with a customized quote for your procedure.

Will I have visible scars after my Mommy Makeover?

The types of scars you may have after surgery depend on the specific surgeries you undergo. Breast augmentation scars, for example, are easily hidden by clothing, and tummy tuck scars may be placed below the bikini line. Overall, most of your scars will not be visible in day-to-day life. These marks will also fade over time and slowly become less noticeable.

We understand how pregnancy and motherhood can take a toll on your body and spirit. You can diet and exercise – but even the healthiest lifestyle cannot transform the lost breast volume and sagging tummy skin that often result from motherhood. Discover how Dr. Diaz can restore your pre-pregnancy appearance and boost your self-confidence with a personalized Mommy Makeover like he has for women from throughout Brevard County and other Florida communities.
